Skye is a Hudson Valley based painter and printmaker. While living in Brooklyn, she founded and ran Vega Studios in Bedstuy with Rachel Chicaguala for five years where they promoted inclusive and affordable studio space with a focus on community. She holds a BFA in printmaking from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and has worked in and with Kala Art Institute in Berkeley California; and Trestle and Brooklyn Art Space in Brooklyn New York. As a New Yorker, her appreciation for the intricate ecosystems and connections to the vastness of all living things influences the way she navigates through living in the city and the subjects of her work. Schirmer utilizes her own experience with gender inequality and the environment in context with the current political climate. She has shown throughout Boston, the Bay Area, New York, and North Carolina, with two minor solo shows in Brooklyn and Ithaca, New York. She has previously been a member of Brooklyn Art Space, the San Francisco Women’s Artists and the California Society of Printmakers. You can find her on Adam Yokell’s Foundwork platform here and on Counterpoint Gallery’s site here.
